Speaker 1:

Minus 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 8 inches. Start 4, 3, 2, 1.

Speaker 2:

I'm Sean and I'm Charlie. This is higher orbit.

Speaker 3:

I just love the mess of that. I don't know Different cadence every time. We got a night show tonight. Some great guests this evening. I'm going to try. Well, actually, I guess, robbie Fisher, that's easy enough to introduce. You nailed it, mark Vittur. Yeah, easy enough, vittur yeah. Vittur. Okay, there you go. Got to correct me that was close enough.

Speaker 4:

I mean, you're not going to get any better than that in Alberta.

Speaker 3:

Fair enough, A couple of boys from out west. They're dropping by for kind and then down to Vegas to rip some sweet cannabis conferences. Welcome to the show guys. We're happy to have you and talk about how All things solvent less than hash related.

Speaker 2:

I believe right.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, Thank you so much. Thanks for having us guys. We're really excited to join you.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, man, let's get right into it. Man, where is your facility? I mean Alberta you mentioned.

Speaker 5:

So yeah. So Mark and I both live in Calgary.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 5:

And our facility is in Rocky View County. Rocky View, it's about five minutes west of Erdrey, okay, about 10 minutes north of Calgary, okay. So it's just outside city limits, it's in the country, it's a beautiful almost 20-acre proctority that we have and, yeah, it's kind of in the rolling foothills. You can see the mountains in the background on a clear day. Yeah, there's been a lot of different iterations of businesses that were conjured up and run from that facility there and over the years it just slowly changed and morphed and finally was turned into an LP. How long have you guys been doing this? So we took over the facility in January of 2022.

Speaker 5:

Okay, and so it was two and a half years that we ran the facility for before we were able to launch our first branded products ourselves. So our first brand that we launched was Astrolab, and that was this summer, in June.

Speaker 2:

That's fucking awesome man. Yeah, I mean I was telling Charlie that as soon as we saw your brand, I was kind of saying that it almost seemed like they would be in the same universe or something Like. They're fucking like, if there was a Quentin Tarantino movie, there would be Cosmic Charlie's and Astrolab would be the producer right and we would sell it in the dispensary. So I immediately kind of gravitated towards it. I really love the style and how did you guys kind of come up with Astrolab and how did that come about?

Speaker 5:

So Astrolab the brand was created. We were kind of spitballing ideas for different names. We definitely wanted to choose something that was going to be fun, not too serious. We actually played around with the idea of just calling ourselves Astrolab first. Cool, and I personally liked it. I thought of the cartoon Astro Boy growing up as a kid. That's what I think of, you know. I think of those rocket boots that he had Every time I take a dab, that's what I want to be doing Fist in the air, taken off into outer space.

Speaker 2:

You totally man, that's awesome.

Speaker 5:

So yeah, I was always into it and then eventually it evolved into Astrolab and we kind of had visions of the old what is it from the Houston NASA compound. They had an old school streamliner RV that used to drive the astronauts to and from the rockets and we kind of imagined having that as the lab.

Speaker 3:

Okay, rv, you have like breaking bad stuff? Exactly.

Speaker 5:

But with a sort of Astro twist or Like the DeLorean.

Speaker 2:

Reap Force as an RV.

Speaker 4:

we'll say so I think that is how you're thinking. It's like Creeful Dead meets Breaking Bad.

Speaker 3:

You love that man. That's fucking sick. Making a hash rosin on the fly I like it Exactly.

Speaker 2:

And where did the obsession with like?

Speaker 3:

solvent lists come from.

Speaker 2:

I know like solvent lists is your fucking passion. That's like what you guys are in this for.

Speaker 5:

So, yeah, the parent LP that we both work for it's called Simply Solvent List Concentrates Limited, okay, and so, like I said, since we took the facility over almost three years ago now, we've been doing a lot of solvent list extraction work. So our main two processes that we do when we bring input material in, so we don't grow anything ourselves we're not cultivators, got it. We do have the cultivation license at our facility. We could, in the future, look at doing that, but we kind of just wanted to focus specifically on doing solvent list extraction and doing it at scale. Okay, cool.

Speaker 5:

So it's a rather large facility that we have 35,000 square feet, we have nine labs, and so, in order to keep the place running, keep the lights on and keep everyone working, we got to be, you know, producing a lot. So processing every day, multiple rooms. We do a lot of infused pre-rolls and packaging. But, yeah, the first two processes that are kind of our staples when we're bringing input material in is we're either taking fresh, frozen and we're washing it in our ice water extraction cold lab, okay, and we're taking that wet bubble, throwing it into freeze dryers and then collecting the dry bubble once it's finished in the freeze dryer and then from there we can take that bubble and we can use that as an input for infused pre-rolls or products, or we can process it further by squishing it into live rosin.

Speaker 2:

I think that's awesome. I think I missed that. I didn't realize that you just do the processing. So that's smart that you know not having to take care of everything, and I guess just focusing on what material you want to work with kind of takes out.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, less capital tied up and growing flour, which is variable, and time energy, all that shit right.

Speaker 5:

Totally, and when we first took over the facility, we purchased it from another LP who kind of grew out of it into a larger space, and when we first took it over, part of the deal was inheriting a lot of their old material that they had stockpiled and weren't able to sell on their own, and so it was a great starting point for us to be able to start processing at mass scale Crazy that's a cool opportunity.

Speaker 5:

And then, you know, cut our teeth and learn how to survive just doing B2B transactions with other LPs, so selling our products in bulk. So the other main process that we do, besides our ice water extraction, is collecting dry sift. So we have tumblers that we use. So we'll take you know, we can take small nugs flour or even just trim and other material like that they call. You know, extract grade material and we'll tumble it in our tumblers with dry ice and collect the Keef or dry sift that makes its way through the different mesh screen sizes that we have.

Speaker 2:

Fuck me, that's a cool shim Sheesh. That's impressive. I'm going to go with that one.

Speaker 5:

Right, I mean the infused pre-rolls are very popular right now. It's a huge category in the legal market and a lot of them you'll see, you know, Keef or dry sift just coated on the exterior of the joints. A lot of the infuse Clot-tops from you guys. Yeah, you know there's plenty of producers out there making it, but it's one of our staple products that we use to further, you know, make like our old-school gummy hash.

Speaker 2:

That we have. I really enjoyed that. You can't mind. You gave me a sample that last time. I wanted to let you know I was super happy with it. Yeah, man, yeah, so nobility buzz. It burned really great. I've heard nothing but good things about it, and especially at the price point.

Speaker 5:

And again coming from Astrolab, it's a solventless product. So the way we make our gummy hash is we take that dry sift that we'll pull from our tumblers and then we'll mix it with our live rosin. Okay, nice, at a specific ratio that makes that really nice, malleable gummy like. That's why we call it the gummy hash Very cool, because it's really fun to play with and, you know, roll into a snake if that's your thing.

Speaker 2:

I'm going to tell you that's you're mixing live rosin and bubble hash and that and getting it to that texture. Sorry, not bubble hash.

Speaker 5:

Sorry, Sometimes we'll work sometimes we'll work a little bit of our bubble hash in there as well, okay, but most of the time the main two ingredients are our live rosin and our dry sifter Keef. There you go, nice.

Speaker 2:

And that's it 100% solventless. I was a big fan of it, which is a huge differentiator.

Speaker 5:

Sorry, I didn't mean to speak over there.

Speaker 2:

No, no, no go for it, Robby man, You're good.

Speaker 5:

But, you know, compared to a lot of the other old school hashes that are out there, you know they're made in part by mixing in distillate, which you know, not to say that ours is actually made how they were making hash, you know, a thousand years ago or anything like that. We've progressed. We'd like to think that our, our hash is is a little bit of a better, cleaner product, right, but but certainly similar. So so a lot of the old school heads kind of love it because it brings them back. And, like you said, the price point two grams over 40% THC for under $30. It's a smoke and deal and there's so many different ways that you can use it. There really is.

Speaker 5:

You know, our ethos or our mission statement at AstroLab is solventless exploration for all, and so you know what we've. What we were thinking of when we came up with that is that we're going to provide these solventless products in a bunch of different formats so that people can enjoy them regardless of whether or not they have a rig at home. It's not just going to be dabbing, but infused pre-rolls, old school gummy hash. We have a product out here in Ontario that's a milled cannabis Okay, infused with live rosin, and it just comes, oh my god, dime baggy, and then, and then we sell it with a disposable one-hitter.

Speaker 4:

That's kind of cool. That takes us back. For some of us that really takes us back because back in the day when you could smoke in a bar, people, you'd bring your one-hitter and your inhabit in your pocket so you'd be in the bar and everybody would be smoking ciggies in there. And you just get a good dipping in your pocket and he's smoking.

Speaker 2:

What is that smell before? I don't know what you're talking about. You just lit up a cigarette. Afterwards fire, right yeah.

Speaker 4:

So for me it's like something that you know, it's like that's what we're having fun with when we were, you know, like 18, 19 years old. Now bird, it's 18 and now it's a commercial product. It's just kind of mind-blowing that this is where we're at with it now, you know yeah, I think it is an interesting idea.

Speaker 3:

I mean, we saw early on there was it was kind of like a turpent fuse and I mean we're seeing a lot of that actual Definitely been intrigued to see more these use out of this guy.

Speaker 6:

True to flower.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, products like that, I don't know. I, I'm, I feel like I know what your guys opinion would be, but like we're seeing a lot of that in the market and I guess, how do you just continue to stay true? I mean, it's in your ethos, really, but I'm sure you have like let's say I'll I'm not LPs, provincial providers or wholesale sellers like looking for these products that are like Definitely different than your vibe.

Speaker 5:

Let's say yeah, yeah, I mean, you know, solvent list is definitely a Weaker category in terms of the, the number of Participants in it, the number of providers that are offering those sorts of products to the legal market.

Speaker 2:

So you know, that's just like an education thing.

Speaker 5:

I Do think so in part. Yes, because I'm.

Speaker 2:

I'm obviously the more educated you know Consumer and I fucking love this shit that you guys are doing, but how come like?

Speaker 5:

we often get told we're the favorite brand in Alberta amongst the bud tenders of Alberta.

Speaker 2:

I Though. But I mean, it's a great place to be recommending you guys at least right, totally, totally but at the end of the day there's still Different or separate from the consumer.

Speaker 5:

Okay, yeah that's right. That is, that is still more coming into the store, that's looking for the best bang for their buck and in and in their mind and in their estimation, they think that means highest THC Value for the lowest per per dollar. Yeah, you know. And then and it's you know, no one goes into a liquor store and says what's your highest give me the 151. If it's cheap and it's in his high alcohol content. That's what I want. Give it to me.

Speaker 3:

No I mean there are some people like that it's an unfortunate trend. I hope it's just that a trend, because I mean it'll take time, like anything. It's still an immature market. So, yeah, it's changing, it's changing.

Speaker 4:

I think it like, let's be real about it, a lot of people that are buying jars are still buying legacy jars. Yeah, that too. So I feel like you know we're coming with a product that's really good. I think you know people like it, I think the heads really respected and the price is good on it. So you know we're gonna get people coming into the stores that haven't been coming into the stores.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, again, solventless exploration for all. Yeah, we didn't want to have our products be at price points that the average consumer couldn't afford.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, when you guys are like looking for products to it being sourced elsewhere. Are you going to see the grow? Are you going to see, like, pick up packs, like what's, what's that process?

Speaker 5:

So so, yeah, definitely in the in the earlier First couple years, we did a lot of touring of a ton of different facilities. Yeah, we've we've worked with a few different LPs providers. We're not as strict when we're, when we're tumbling and collecting dry sift, yeah, but for our fresh frozen We've pretty much gotten the majority of our material from one LP, one provider, and it's all outdoor products. So it's Actually now certified organic the farm as a 2023. So this year's crop is certified organic.

Speaker 2:

Let's don't man, yeah, and you get a lot of chirps that you can't get in door from some outdoor sun room bleaching bed.

Speaker 5:

Right, it's, they're, they're large, whole, whole plants that were, you know, harvested and then, flash frozen, brought to our facility in reefer trucks. You know, we're even, we're even super strict about how we unload those trucks and and the time in which it's, you know, exposed to room temperature before we get it into our freezers where we're storing it. Yeah, and then, and then, even after it gets into the facility in OQ, a inspects it all, make sure that it's passes their, their standards, and and then, boom, we'll start washing it as quickly as possible and it's timing like is that like a brutal factor in the processing of it?

Speaker 2:

like in the fresh frozen? How much time do you have when you have a fresh frozen product like that, like so?

Speaker 5:

We've. You know you can. You can if it's, if it's frozen properly, if it's harvested and frozen properly, okay, you can keep it for for a little while before Before you wash it. But I mean different. I'm not the lead, has she's shun at our facility. I'm not the expert, so I don't want to speak.

Speaker 2:

Who is?

Speaker 5:

shut them out.

Speaker 2:

So him or her, whatever.

Speaker 5:

Braden Macintyre is our, is our lead. Has she shun? And okay, all right, cool, I got him saved in my phone is the Messiah, because To me he is the chosen one. He and he's gonna lead us to the promised land. I truly believe that. So, yeah, big ups to Braden Macintyre. That guy works in incredibly hard Since he started three months before me. So he started since the day we got the keys to the facility and they were just doing R&D at that point I came in on March 27th, I believe and that was our first day of commercial production that that guy works incredibly hard. He's incredibly humble. He's always Continuing to learn. We're continuing to improve our processes. We don't think we're the best at anything, but we do think that we we want it really bad and we're working really hard for it and we're trying to, we're trying to change the game here, essentially.

Speaker 2:

So, yeah, man, I think Charlie kind of pointed that out. Like you know, it's tough to have a foot. Well, it's just tough to have a focus on solving this when everybody wants fucking general admission, dusting, dusty and Dusty's and whatever the tasties aren't, or 50% THC with the the blueberry raspberry terps and it tastes like a jolly rancher. Yeah, gross, but you know itself.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's alright, things will change. Market still new.

Speaker 5:

We'll talk more about that cuz, like you know, we have something to say about that too.

Speaker 2:

We'll be right back hating. Don't forget to follow. At high-roar, I had a higher orbit, and at astralabs, at your tag. Astralab 710 on, I do a lab at astralab 710. There you go. We'll be right back with our boys from Astralab.

Speaker 3:

We are back with the astralabs boys and lots of rosin talking to her.

Speaker 2:

I'm a shot. What was Georgia pie flour with the summer cherry punch in it? It was good, very good. Yeah, it turned out really good. Cold out there, though I think there's a little clogged issue at the end, but that's neither here nor there.

Speaker 5:

No, the clogged was at the beginning, it was clogged at the end, mean you?

Speaker 3:

figured it out. There you go. Where do we lift off? We were kind of talking a little bit botanical turf versus you know right. I'm wondering. I mean, we don't really know what's gonna happen, but how would you feel if, let's say, legislation change, for Terps not being allowed?

Speaker 5:

I mean well for Astrolab. It wouldn't really affect us too much, because the only terpenes we have in the Astrolab products are derived from the plant themselves. So it's a part of the process. It's all from the same one ingredient. You know all of our, all of our jar concentrates. They're all single strains, so we're not just doing a jungle mix or anything like that.

Speaker 2:

A jungle mix. I haven't heard that term before. I like that, but I do think that's weird because I've I've heard other people being like it's a mix of this and that and I'm doing a live rosin and I'm like that kind of defeats the purpose, isn't it? If you're going after somebody that cares enough to want to, you know, really experience that strain. Yeah, definitely.

Speaker 6:

I mean.

Speaker 5:

I love that. It's like the essence of the plant, you know. Yeah, it's really capturing the essence of the garden, it's. It tastes like the flower smells, as opposed to.

Speaker 2:

You did, natalie, yeah, yeah, I think there's something, too that people always ask me like well, you dab because you want to get really high, right, and I'm like, but sometimes I actually feel like you are just experiencing more of the essence of the plant to that even more higher degree and you're not carbonizing it, so you're not getting that like ashy taste, right? Um, that's just.

Speaker 3:

Well, we're not smoking yeah.

Speaker 4:

We're not carbonizing it. Nothing is being combusted.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah. So you're really like just unlocking so much flavor, I guess is what I'm saying Chasing the Terps, that's it so.

Speaker 5:

so let's talk flavors. What are your guys favorite flavors?

Speaker 2:

Favorite probably like um, og and gas always over here kind of. That's like pretty much like if you're smoking yeah.

Speaker 5:

Smoking or dabbing, you know.

Speaker 2:

Still, that's what I look for. Yeah, I guess that's like the. You know, I guess that's what I'm looking for, barnishing gas.

Speaker 3:

I think me and Sean have pretty similar tastes, yeah.

Speaker 2:

Um, I like some of that cakey stuff.

Speaker 3:

I like some fruity stuff too, Like fruity things desserts are in right now, right?

Speaker 2:

Obviously, everybody seems to like things that are sweeter Funki.

Speaker 3:

it'd be nice sometimes, like on occasion, you know, a little funky, like something real weird or like what the fuck.

Speaker 2:

Anything. Yeah, Weird GMOs sometimes can be cool. No, but that's funky, it's weird yeah.

Speaker 5:

When I'm dabbing, I feel like I'm on the never ending search Things.

Speaker 2:

I don't like For that new flavor. Other terps you don't like.

Speaker 5:

more importantly, For something I've never tasted before, so that's if it's weird or it's strange that's hot to me.

Speaker 6:

Yeah.

Speaker 5:

You know that's the new fire.

Speaker 6:

Something different, Because it's just like whoa, what was that?

Speaker 2:

I'm not a huge fan of the Bioturp or like you know, and it smells like someone's gym bag really, Like you know or like that, with a little bit of cappy, ammonia-y kind of thing. Yeah, that's not for me. Cute macabre piss. Yeah yeah, I'm not going to eat a piss. And all those kinds of things, Even when it comes through like it's supposed to, I'm just like nah take that To me there's something kind of a feeling about it.

Speaker 4:

I'm not going to lie in a weird way, I don't know, now I'm with you that cat piss is one of the loudest, at least like I've had in diamond and sauce form and man you open that up, you know exactly what I'm talking about.

Speaker 5:

It's like a rocket up here. You can smell it across the room Like it's rude, yeah, offensive. Offensive. It literally smells like, because I really I'm allergic to cats, so I have a predisposed you got like a fucking open cat piss jar I've had some

Speaker 5:

cats in my life that I ended up liking anyways, but they got some work to do to make it into my good books and I think one of the most disgusting smells in the world is like the kitty litter box, especially if the owner doesn't properly maintain it or whatever you gotta do yeah, that's rough.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's definitely not good.

Speaker 5:

And it's amazing that that is a smell that one of these flowers can produce.

Speaker 6:

It really is. It's genetically in its makeup.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, it really is. Every time it's gonna smell like a cheetah's piss. You got weird like pineapple. It's like a sour fermented pineapple in a way. That's not what I think of. I ended the piss a little bit but like trying not to let your head go there, fermented pineapple, good call. That's kind of what it is. I don't know. I don't know.

Speaker 5:

To me. I like the sweet herbs, the fruity herbs. That's why I like our summer cherry punch so much. Another flavor we got on the pipeline coming up here, hopefully, will be this purple punch, and that's another. It's a different kind of fruity. It's kind of like a tart orange Okay, like a sharp, sour, like orange peel Very cool.

Speaker 3:

I'm wondering is a lot of the yield, like how do you maximize yield or is it mostly down to the input? Or I guess, as it depend on kind of the microns you're using and depending on what you, how much plant matter you're using.

Speaker 5:

It is, I think, in large parts strange specific. But who you know, how it's grown is also very important, and I know Brayden always talks about intention in the garden. So when you're growing with the purpose or intention of washing the whole time, that's why, like for those purposes, an outdoor garden is kind of like unbeatable, because you know that THC percentage isn't going to be your main factor and you know how Isn't potency?

Speaker 2:

I have a thing of the best way to say it is that THC percentage doesn't equate to potency. Well, and every geneticism I think that's the common myth right that we're trying to bust, right, Correct Everybody, 100%.

Speaker 4:

I mean there's entourage effect. There's, you know, there's the effect of the different terrapins. Have you know? We I think it was the Karma Cup. I heard the winner of the Karma Cup this year was like under 15% THC or something like that. Oh cool, so you know it's. This whole idea you got to have the highest THC to have the best weed is just wrong.

Speaker 2:

No, I think you're right, man, I think you're right. I always say I think we're probably the best. Weed is probably around only 22 to 23% THC of fat and just a higher terp percentage, you know, and that's probably going to this probably as as high as it needs to be to get you pretty fucking zuted. I would say Just well-grown weed per se. Can you guys?

Speaker 2:

disclose who you get your stuff from or know. Is that top secret Mac and Tire Creek fun. Is that what it was? I don't know if we shouted them out yet, Okay cool MCCI yeah, that's dope Mac and Tire Creek.

Speaker 5:

Shout out to Quinn Shishin.

Speaker 2:

And there in Alberta as well.

Speaker 5:

No, they're in the Okanagan, in BC Okanagan.

Speaker 2:

Okay, there you go Now connecting the dot.

Speaker 5:

Close to Penticton. Close to Okanagan Falls.

Speaker 2:

Okay.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, we were lucky enough to get a tour the day before they were doing crop out and they were the day before they started their crop out a minute last month and it was just incredible seeing the field of dreams.

Speaker 2:

You just tell them what they were doing.

Speaker 4:

Oh, just seeing the flowers and all their glory, it's just unbelievable. Totally Seeing. Some of you know we were able to see the purple punch and it's just incredible. It was like almost, I think, three meters some of them.

Speaker 2:

Well, the Okanagan Valley is beautiful. If people don't know, you can grow fucking anything there. I think it's one of the very few places in the world actually you can grow your round, if I'm not mistaken. I'm pretty sure Well, facts like that, but I'm pretty sure.

Speaker 6:

I mean they grow a lot of stuff there.

Speaker 5:

That's for sure. That's where all the wine comes from, and everything yeah.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, which is pretty cool With respect to those guys growing for you, do you reach out to them and you're like I need this for hash, or just going and seeing what they're already growing, and then they're like, hey, I got this sweet girl for you guys.

Speaker 5:

We when we first started working with them. I mean, they have a lot of cannabis, for sure.

Speaker 5:

They grow a lot of cannabis, and they were harvesting and freezing it right away because, whether it was for our purposes, for solventless extraction or for a hydrocarbon facility to use, that's the route that they were going, and so I think they were choosing strains that they were hoping would work well for those scenarios, and so we've test washed every lot or batch, every different cultivar that they've grown each year to see which ones will produce the best or work the best with us and go from there, and definitely we came together for sure because it worked really well with more than one of the strains that they grew. We had a lot of success with quite a few.

Speaker 2:

Do you guys know if there's something like different you have to look for when you're trying to process outdoor compared to, like you know, indoor? I don't know. I was just on me. I don't know.

Speaker 5:

I mean yeah.

Speaker 3:

Or whatever maybe, maybe this one. I got a question. Obviously like the hash you dab is quite different from like rosin you would put into a cart. Do you know the difference in kind of how those are processed and made? Is that a question for the hash master?

Speaker 6:

I mean yeah, for sure we know.

Speaker 5:

To a certain extent we can explain to layman mark.

Speaker 4:

So I mean, the jars are cold, care, yeah, and so basically, when we fill up, when we're filling up the cartridges, we're basically doing it. It's, it's similar to a sous vide type.

Speaker 5:

Well, so, yeah, so the cold care is what we'll put in the jars for a jar concentrate, but what we'll do for the rosin sauce that we put into our carts is Process it further. So we'll have it in those same jars, but we'll put those jars into an oven and we'll cook it at a proper temperature, monitor it and Cook it down into a rosin sauce that we can then use in a cart. But but there's certainly a lot more to it than that. And and Strain to strain certain cult of ours will work better, and the hardware that exists like Hardware needs to get better for sure, and there's lots of companies working hard to try and make better hardware and and and you know, we're hopeful that it'll get better and better, but there's a there's a lot of things to consider.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, the rosin is very taxing on the cartridges. Yeah, you know the turp rich and we've just you know we've we had, we've had issues where we've switched into the C cell evil and we were having a lot better luck with those. They're working really well for us. But yeah, the the technology's got to catch up. It seems like a lot of we see it in Canada, we see it in the States. It seems like everybody that's got a solvent list live rosin cartridge are cutting it with distillate and and that that's kind of the solution to make the cartridge work.

Speaker 5:

So you know, we, we at astral lab, we want to keep the cartridges, we actually want to keep them, solve the list, we want them to be live rosin and if, if, that's what we're advertising them, as that's what we're gonna, what we're gonna put in and we've done our best to make sure to like Make it right with any customer who's had a bad experience with the card, or even the retail stores like yourselves you know if you guys are having returns or whatever will work with you to make sure that we can rectify the situation, get past it right. But but yeah, like Mark said, we've we've launched the new pineapple orange peel here in Ontario in the C cell Evo cart and so far we're seeing a much better success with with those guys and Sales have been increasing growing.

Speaker 6:

So the people seem to be liking it better price point to a little bit.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the price point is excellent. Yeah, I think there are our clients. I'll seem to really like. I'm for what it's worth, so we just keep adding yeah yeah, it's been nice to smoke and enjoy.

Speaker 4:

We appreciate it as a part, I think. I think at the end of the day, I think most people will come in and get a cartridge like they just see it as Cartridge, like they're not thinking about like just live rosin, what they just want a product that's strong, that smokes well, you know it's like. So I think, like if we can give them a product that's it's gonna be a better quality and and we give it to them at a price point that's similar to a disti Perfect, we're gonna start getting some, some people that you know. Okay, I'll try that out.

Speaker 4:

It's an accent when they try it out, it's like okay, well, um, this is a lot better. Hi, this is. I'm not just going straight up and then crashing. You know You're gonna get the entourage effect. You're gonna. You're gonna realize why.

Speaker 5:

Like are you talking about after a lab, right now? Are you talking about?

Speaker 4:

Well, I was talking about Astrolab, but. But that's a good. I mean you can tell the boys about fruity hoodie.

Speaker 6:

You take it, you take it.

Speaker 4:

I mean, we're kind of trying to flip the script a little bit with with fruity hoodie. It's a new brand We've just launched here, oh cool. And what we're doing is is, instead of, you know, cutting our live rosin cartridges with 20% disti, we've cut disti cartridges with 20% live rosin and We've formulaed, we've come up with a formula that I think is really really nice. We were smoking it earlier. The grape we got a grape watermelon, coconut and peach and I Think it's just gonna kind of bridge the gap for people. You know, it's like people that that, like those fruity flavors, it'll give them a taste of live rosin and again, they're gonna get. They're gonna get a taste of the entourage effect. They're gonna get a taste of why we feel like live rosin is a little bit better alternative for people, right so yeah.

Speaker 5:

So we just launched fruity hoodie two weeks ago in the Alberta with three flavors of Dysolate vape cart. So we have the pop and peach, the gargantuan grape and the wild watermelon coconut and that comes in a one gram and a half gram five ten threaded vape cart and it will be coming to Ontario in February along with that distill infused pre-rolls. But, like Mark said, it's distillate that's been amplified with our live rosin right. So so yeah, it's distillate product, it's got the Terps right. But hey, it's, it's what selling, it's what the thing it's, it's what the People are showing us with their actions that they're looking for.

Speaker 5:

So we're not, we're not gonna be weed snobs here. We're gonna give the people what we, what they want, and we already have been, like I was telling you guys before we survived for two and a half years before we launched our first brand. So there's a lot of products out there that we were already making. You know that we can't necessarily talk about and and name names, but but we're doing a lot of white labeling where we're making products for other LPs or other brands that are out on the market. And so there came a point where it's like whoa, we're making a lot of distillate infused pre-rolls at our facility we're filling a lot of distillate vape carts. Why don't we launch our own brand of these products to to maybe get a little bigger piece of the pie? Or or, like Mark said, offer a segue, or or open the door to the consumer's mind that's maybe stuck and the distillate path to to seeing that maybe adding some some solvent, less Full spectrum product, can give you a more.

Speaker 3:

You know, you can learn more about it. Yeah, I think it'll slowly get there. I think that's a great concept. I mean, we haven't heard anything like that, so we're excited for that. That's why.

Speaker 2:

I'm super excited about that. I'm also super excited about our grow. We're growing our four plants. I got 20 days left of flower in the willies, wonder. We're gonna do a little soiled oil. So we'll keep you guys posted if I a new trend and that's an hash, I don't know. We'll send some out to you guys so you can try it at least hey, that's a dream, yeah.

Speaker 2:

We're gonna try to to make some hash out of some of it and then We'll keep you posted. But I'm moved on to the next stage of the nutrients. Yeah, we got 20 days left, so that's pretty interesting. And shred them Well, no, they're bouncing back. I just went with some flour. I think I did give them a little twitch nutrients there for a bit. I got a little curling and burning. But you know I'm still new to this, is the first run.

Speaker 5:

So nice, and so how long have you been going for?

Speaker 2:

This is it, man. It was the first time ever, every first time ever. I grew some plants out door but I kind of consider that a little bit different. But that was my first, definitely for sure, ever going to me like indoor in the tense or anything like that.

Speaker 5:

I've had a few failed attempts, for sure.

Speaker 2:

So I haven't died yet. So you know, there's the buzzer looking. All right, man, yeah, I mean they'll bounce back. There is all. You're right. Even I've run the leaves this hit them with some regular water, like without nutrients in it, for a bit, mm-hmm. And then now I'm moving on to the next stage, where I think is a little lighter. It's the Bud candy and then the flush at the end. So we're getting there, we're getting there.

Speaker 3:

I'm gonna quickly show it out our boy Ross big Lin, for this dope of recycler. It's dope recycler. Yeah, it was pretty fire we.

Speaker 5:

I've taken a couple dabs off of it. It functions really, really well. I like the sound. Well done Ross.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, rob.

Speaker 3:

Rob. I think I said Ross. Sorry, rob. Yeah, also, we do still have five rip tips to give away. If anyone wants to shoot us a question, it's Charlie or Sean at higher orbit Dot ca.

Speaker 2:

We'll be right back with aster labs. Don't forget to follow at aster lab 710 and at higher.

Speaker 3:

Make sure you like and subscribe. Thanks guys, smash it shout out to sheesh.

Speaker 2:

She official beverage of higher orbit? Yeah, I got it.

Speaker 5:

I might be on my third can right now. Oh the day oh the day, ah, oh.

Speaker 3:

We're back Back to the shop. I think the store is about to close some way now pepper delivery, knees pepperonis shut it down, boys. I hope so hopefully.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, ronys, we call him pepperonis. Well, we got deliveries. Yeah, that's like our lingo, you got. You like it, I like the lingo idea yeah, I.

Speaker 6:

I like pepperoni pizza.

Speaker 3:

What would you boys want everyone to know about ashelab? I mean mark, we were just kind of chatting about it.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, the most important thing is just how hard everybody works. Like our facility. We have roughly 40 people that work at our facility and Like from the top down, like our CEO, jeff Swains, and he works his ass off and you know he's not a conventional CEO, he's very hands-on and he's in there, you know, very involved with with all the brands and helping develop the brands and, you know, getting things to market very aggressive that way. I was telling you about Bill McDonald as well. He's he's one of our founders and he's the inspiration for our old school gummy hash.

Speaker 4:

He he's in his 70s and he is a smoker and he, you know, when he started the company he wanted to make a hash that was as good as he used to have in the 70s because he feels like, feels like you know there, why can't I get hash that's as good as I used to get in the 70s? You know, and I would hear that a lot back in the day. You know these old, old guys would tell you about how good the hash was and Classic. You know, come out east and people out east would tell you about the hash. Out west is more about the weed that we were getting from BC, you know, when people were more on the flowers. So yeah, bill, bill, you know he's really fed up with a lot of the hash that's out there on the market.

Speaker 4:

Feels like disney and Keith that we see out there isn't real hash and so he's really proud of of, of what everyone in the facility has come up with, and that's the other thing is that everybody in our facility, they just they work so hard. There's about 30 people in the processing facility, would you say roughly.

Speaker 5:

I think so, or maybe a bit more yeah.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, so it's, you know, full time. We're going seven days a week and you know everybody works really hard and, and you know, robbie and I are out there and we're trying to get get astrolab out there, we're trying to get fruity hoodie out there with the help of Fernando, de capo of 10-01 group in Alberta shout out to Fernando yeah, and you know, but we're only as good as the product that we have.

Speaker 4:

Really, you know, like we're just joking, we don't have, we don't have our business cards. But honestly, I feel like if I come to your store and I give you guys a sample of something that's like you know Some fire, you guys are gonna remember us, you guys are gonna know who you know. Like, yeah, it's like that's how that goes.

Speaker 2:

You know that. That's why you guys are here, you know.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, so and and and. We're only here right now because of those people in the facility and how hard they work and Love that. You know they're. They're in there grinding like it's. They don't see the.

Speaker 2:

Where it's guys yeah.

Speaker 6:

Label.

Speaker 4:

Stamps and it's. It's super cool seeing seeing people working there and stuff to you know. You have. You know just some of the ladies in there. They have the music going and they're they're on the dry sift machines, you know, with the paint brushes and it's just, it's a vibe, you know and sanitation.

Speaker 5:

Sanitation Our facilities cleaner than a hospital mark worked. How many years?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I worked in a hospital for over 10 years.

Speaker 2:

You're in a hospital. I love that.

Speaker 4:

So I, you know it's, it's, this is what we're doing. This is what we're doing right? You know, in the new world here, right, like we're, we're, we're holding ourselves to higher standards and you know, I feel like we're producing better product than Then. Then we've seen, you know, there's lots of good weed out there to that.

Speaker 2:

So what's uh? Is there anything new in the rosin pipe you can share? Is there anything new coming to Ontario anyways?

Speaker 4:

I mean I keep telling you guys about the baller jar dabs light. Oh, that's what we're super excited about right now. Okay, Um, you know it's uh three and a half grams.

Speaker 2:

It's two and a half grams. They wouldn't get like you do three and a half.

Speaker 4:

So it's 1.25 live rosin, 1.25 CBD isolate. Oh, together and it at room temperature, you get. It turns into kind of a nice jam. Okay very dabble, um, you know a very functional dab nicer in the daytime.

Speaker 3:

And you're mentioning a little bit hotter. I think, yeah, yeah, a little bit.

Speaker 4:

We find that, like if you, if you heat the nail up a little bit hotter you know everybody's about low temp dabbing Case in the turps I find with the dabs light you hit it a little bit hotter and you kind of get that cherry sirt flavor to it. That is my recommendation.

Speaker 5:

Cherry sirt. Yeah, it's like cherry sirt.

Speaker 4:

It's almost that's, I find, when you get that good CBD isolate, you know we don't add any. You're right, actually, about that experience I know you're talking about like yeah yeah, we're not adding any turps, right, it's just, it's the live rosin and then just the CBD isolate and just that. That taste from the CBD isolate, it's uh, it's nice.

Speaker 2:

It's a nice flavor With it, and you can take it a little hotter, I think so you get a little more vapor off of it. I find that CBD isolate.

Speaker 4:

Yeah, oh, you get. You get a nice cloud off of it, for sure.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, that's exciting.

Speaker 6:

That sounds like it's nice when you're all stressed and tensed up and you just want to relax.

Speaker 3:

What do you think? So you guys are leading the way in terms of, uh, bridging that gap and, I think, bringing people to the solving less market, but what do you think you need to see in the legal market to pull over some of those Folks who are still buying legacy jars, kind of like we were talking just before. Good questions, really.

Speaker 5:

We just gotta let them know we're out here and that there's there's good products in the legal market. You can find good products at your store. We're not the only ones, but you know we're. We're just trying to do it At at a mass scale so that we can sell it at a price point that everyone can afford and the consumer can depend on us to keep feeding them those jars over and over again. And it's not just going to be a limited drop of 800 or something like that.

Speaker 2:

Good point. What's a good point, man? That's really important.

Speaker 5:

Well, I guess. Well, I mean, look at cigarettes, look at the way people smoke cigarettes.

Speaker 6:

The people smoke the same exact cigarettes for freaking 20 years, 20 years.

Speaker 3:

Do you think eventually we'll see that type of behavior and we though?

Speaker 6:

Well, I hope not.

Speaker 4:

I'm all about the flavors, but do you guys see that, like, do you guys see people coming in and just seeing? They get bored people buying the same they do get bored.

Speaker 3:

Certain, certain people don't. They'll rotate a bit like you think about, like your Sure-signed pink kush, for instance. I mean, I think that their market's shrinking a little bit, but there are some people who literally live and die by.

Speaker 6:

You got any of that violator kush mark.

Speaker 2:

The violator. Violator mark.

Speaker 5:

The violators legendary it is there really is violators, like you know, I know plenty of people who find that one strain, that one called the bar, and they're just like, yeah, there's nothing that beats it and that is all they want.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, you want to be shadow tool, jom it was always the funny thing I was selling violator kush. I don't really want to be.

Speaker 5:

Yeah, I was always first in line.

Speaker 2:

Who might sell a?

Speaker 6:

body.

Speaker 3:

I love it. It is funny.

Speaker 5:

So does. So does asking someone to smell your jar, but I do it all the time, yeah.

Speaker 3:

Hey, come here. There are definitely I think names have a lot to do with strains depending, like regardless of how good the flour is, some people Exactly like Sean said, some people do not want the violation.

Speaker 2:

They don't want the violation. But, like you said, the other day that guy came in and yeah, no gelato, right, no gelato guy.

Speaker 3:

Oh, that guy was funny, buddy. No gelato, no gelato.

Speaker 2:

Get out of here, charlie, as soon as he's trying to go down that road with him, um, and it's in so many things, but anyways, he was doing funny. He was like I don't want gelato.

Speaker 6:

No, gelato crosses out of bad, so adamance about it and was just not, you know, I know, feel that wave out of regina.

Speaker 3:

Yeah right, oh really, even like Sicilian, or regina. Yeah, wow, is there like commentallion bro?

Speaker 2:

But there must be a strain that we all just won't smoke and I know what charlie's is, but like, yeah, like no Strain, that won't smoke. What's a strain? That like if somebody offers it to you, no matter how nice it is, you're like no, I'm good Really and I have one for sure.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, what is it? Sourcush, sourcush? Yeah, they're not meant to be. It's like I mean all weeds, kind of two cousins but that's like brother and sister in a weird way, you know, creating a bastard strain. It's not good.

Speaker 2:

I don't like things that have too much little little in them because I find like I'm allergic to it or something and it closes off my throat. I like, I like the effects of it, but I find that If I find a strain, like I find it worry-os, I think has a little little and like certain things like that and it fucks me up, just fucks me up. My eyes get all watered and my shink is all closed up. I sneeze and I it's just not. I just don't enjoy myself. Does that make sense.

Speaker 2:

Yeah, no, and I just don't like the flavor of it and then like orange chirps, too much orange and anything I can't really get down. Really good mimosa if it's on the sweeter side of orange juice and not like the tangy like so pey tangy.

Speaker 6:

You don't like the tangy.

Speaker 2:

Don't like the tangy.

Speaker 3:

Get out of here, tangy.

Speaker 2:

Man, I know, I don't know, that's just me. I mean, you know, I told you I like the gas, the gas OG smoker over here. So with like sprinkles of dessert.

Speaker 4:

The one you know. I always used to hear about cheeses, you know people like man it's like it's like I like anything but but no cheese.

Speaker 2:

No, there you go. See, you had some.

Speaker 4:

But for myself, I, I, I don't discriminate against cheese. No, I like my cheeses.

Speaker 2:

Of course, if it was in fire I'm going to try it. Yeah, but it's just never going to be my go to. Does that mean that makes sense? Yeah, you guys must have one.

Speaker 3:

I guess it's hard. I know what you mean.

Speaker 4:

Like anything works, well anything if you hit anything, if it, if it shuts your your lungs down like that's a no go. Like you know we were talking earlier, like you know, some of these Disti carts. I don't even know what I got, but a friend of mine passed me one couple months ago and, like my, I started having an asthma attack. I wouldn't even have asthma.

Speaker 3:

I was just. I agree they're inflammatory for sure yeah, when they

Speaker 2:

add too many, I think, botanical turps. It gets to a point where like people think it's getting them high and I'm like, no, it's just like destroying your lungs, probably like fuck yeah. Anyways, let's be honest, I hope not. I hope not. I do think, though it's on a real note, like I guess I can't talk about this podcast. I feel like eventually they will be like babe carts are terrible for you Probably Vape and botanical turps. Beans are bad. Now we have the data, just the theory. Well, I mean. I'm just just a hunch.

Speaker 4:

I feel like you know, in the meantime it's like you can hit solvent, less solvent, less vape carts, and it's better alternative. We got a place right.

Speaker 2:

We need the lightspeed card to well for us. I know that.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, it was a good one.

Speaker 2:

We're gonna give it a shot. I don't vape that much.

Speaker 6:

Well, and that's how we're trying to change things right Right now.

Speaker 5:

Top 30 selling vapes in Ontario. Oh, that's sick. Or all just live vapes.

Speaker 3:

Oh, I thought you were a 10.

Speaker 6:

That doesn't surprise me though Like just from my experience here Just the numbers, yeah.

Speaker 2:

What's the top one, Do you know? I think it's general admission. I was gonna say Tiger Blood probably.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, probably something like that, or a back 40 card or something like that. Gnarly Okay Like we have the conversation all the time. There's like a segment of people who, unfortunately, like and I've said this before, just don't care, like we'll be, like hey, like do you want like fruity or like more like weedy? And they're like what do you even mean? And then you start talking and then usually I just stop and exactly.

Speaker 2:

You can lose them, but that's a good, usually a place to start what people do. So I'm just looking at you confused, like what do you mean?

Speaker 3:

No, but it's nice to have a conversation. It depends on the mood. You catch someone in or again, some people just don't care.

Speaker 6:

Almost every young person I know vapes one of those disposable nicotine.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, the young people with that is wild yeah.

Speaker 6:

So why can't they have one that's got, you know, cannabis and instead of nicotine?

Speaker 4:

Yeah, I mean all we use is like heat, ice, water and pressure and cannabis. That's all, that's it. That's the only you know ingredient in our vape carts. So to me, in terms of an alternative, it's probably the best one out there.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, yeah, there's a select few. She's sure, sometimes you drop that and people are intrigued, though, when you say that ice water water pressure right yeah, that's it. That's it, and it's like think about it and they're like, oh, I'm like I'm considering this, I'm smoking it Right. And they're like, yeah, I'll take that and you're the great price too.

Speaker 4:

McIntyre Creek. You know they got certified organic for 2023, but they've been working towards that and so they've been, you know, using organic and sustainable methods and so, like we're getting highest quality. You know input flower from BC and you know we're processing it in the least intrusive way, you know. So I think it's I keep saying I just I think it's the best alternative. I've been dabbing for almost a decade now, or probably over a decade, and I've been pretty much that whole time is hydrocarbon extractions, bho, diamonds and sauce. That was always my jam. You know FSEs, that sort of thing.

Speaker 4:

But over the last year I've really gone more into the live rosins, into the solving this world and just seeing what's out there. Yeah, it's just, you get all the same flavors. You get different flavors. Like Rob you're saying, you know you get flavors. It's like holy shit, I haven't, even I've never, I've never tasted that before, right, and that's what you're kind of like. I feel like that's what. If you're a dabber, that's what you're going for. You're trying to find that, that terp. You have an experience, right.

Speaker 2:

So Great answer, man.

Speaker 4:

I don't know where I was going by. You know it was a good one.

Speaker 2:

I think that as we educate everybody more, hopefully they'll want to try more live rosin carts to understand what they are.

Speaker 3:

So With something like fruity hoody would you ever dabble with like an FSE, because obviously Astralabs is a solving list, but like I don't have any issues with an FSE or like some people aren't scared of VHO and I'm like I mean that's the best.

Speaker 2:

It tastes good if it's clean.

Speaker 5:

You know, got the liberty to kind of experiment and explore with all kinds of different products.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, true, that gives you a little bit more runway to mess around a little bit. Yeah, nice, yeah, that's awesome.

Speaker 4:

In the meantime, we keep Astralab. You know, solvalless and solvalless exploration for all you know. That's, that's the mission statement and that's what we're going to stick to with Astralab and fruity hoodies just gonna. You know, I don't know if I've said it today on the pod yet- I'm going to say it like 10 times after I leave.

Speaker 2:

It's the gateway.

Speaker 4:

It's the gate, fruity hoodies, the gateway into live rosin. It's a way to introduce people to it, right. Okay, get people into it.

Speaker 2:

I look forward to trying to know man.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, definitely. Oh, that just popped in my head and I'm guilty, I guess, but I haven't been blazing in a while in my defense. But what flower is in your guys' pre-roll? That's the first product we brought in, by the way, for you guys. We love them.

Speaker 6:

So right now we've got Dank Sinatra as the flower that we're using in our pre-rolls Nice, okay, okay, from your homies down the way. Yes, from a grow also out of Alberta Nice.

Speaker 3:

Okay, yeah, very good, I was talking to someone about that strain today.

Speaker 6:

Yeah, it's nice yeah. It's beautiful smoke Nice.

Speaker 5:

Blended with a beautiful live rosin.

Speaker 3:

Yeah, baby, is it Dank Sinatra rosin as well?

Speaker 6:

No, no, no, no no.

Speaker 5:

The strain names for the live rosin are in the title of the product.

Speaker 6:

So it's a guava-cock-kush and the pineapple orange peel yeah nice.

Speaker 3:

Wait, there's a guava-cock-kush. Yeah.

Speaker 6:

Pre-roll yeah yeah, I think yeah that's correct.

Speaker 5:

In Alberta we have a one and a half gram guava-cock-kush live rosin infused.

Speaker 4:

One point five got blunt. We got a blunt number.

Speaker 5:

Oh, a future roller wrap.

Speaker 4:

yeah, We'll make sure you guys get one of those before we leave here. You guys can try that. I'm going to open this and inspect it.

Speaker 3:

I'm not going to dab it, but this I got the summer cherry punch. So this is launching in Ontario or it's already out.

Speaker 2:

Oh, I have one open here. You can take this one. Pass it over to Charlie. The summer cherry punch, so you can pick this up in Ontario.

Speaker 5:

Summer cherry punch you can pick up in Alberta. Okay, Guava-cock-kush live rosin you can pick up in Ontario.

Speaker 2:

Okay, there, that's a dab in the clover.

Speaker 1:

Thanks for calling the Sheesh Hotline. Are you stoned? Press zero and tell us about it. Matter of fact, tell us whatever. Just hash it out. You might end up on our Instagram. Sheesh leave a message at the tone.

Speaker 5:

Hey, I just wanted to say what up to Sheesh. Thank you for producing a beautiful craft, artisan cherry cola beverage using a solventless hash product. You knocked it out of the park with this one.
