Sean Kady (00:07):
Hi, I'm Sean.
Charlie Kady (00:09):
And I'm Charlie, and this is Higher Orbit. Welcome to today's episode.
Sean Kady (00:19):
Episode three, Charlie.
Charlie Kady (00:20):
Yeah, here with my brother, Sean, and co-host back of the shop.
Sean Kady (00:25):
Yeah, 821 Queen Street West. Fired up to be with everybody here today. Super excited. We got a great show for you. Charlie... Well, it's the night before 4/20. I guess you can...
Charlie Kady (00:35):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (00:36):
Our excitement is oozing through.
Charlie Kady (00:37):
Easy way to tee it up. Big day obviously for anybody who participates or even enjoys the flower usually. It's a bit of a Christmas day, if you will, for most.
Sean Kady (00:50):
Yeah, I think that's a good way to put it. I don't know. Spring is in the air.
Charlie Kady (00:55):
That's right. Energy's different.
Sean Kady (00:56):
Energy's different. April 20th come... I think we're going to see some big things. We have a bunch of stuff planned. We won't get too much into that, but come to the store if you can.
Charlie Kady (01:09):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (01:09):
Come by anytime on 4/20. We always have lots of stuff planned. We got some big deals.
Charlie Kady (01:14):
We'll hook you up. We're doing some fun things. There'll be pizza, all the fun stuff.
Sean Kady (01:18):
Yeah, yeah. Little fundraiser.
Charlie Kady (01:19):
We're doing a charity, fundraiser. So pop by between 12:00 to 4:00. Maybe this will air after that, but anyways.
Sean Kady (01:27):
It's going to be lots of fun.
Charlie Kady (01:28):
It's good to be lots of fun. Yeah.
Sean Kady (01:31):
I think there something you want to get off your chest?
Charlie Kady (01:32):
Yeah. Well, no, not get off my chest. I guess I was just a little bit fired up, excited, as you said. Maybe it's a combination of those things, that nice weather, but just talk about what's happening in the retail landscape, hot topics, at least for you and me and what we're...
Sean Kady (01:50):
Mississauga. Mississauga today.
Charlie Kady (01:52):
That's one.
Sean Kady (01:52):
City council meetings happening. Shout out to [inaudible 00:01:55]-
Charlie Kady (01:54):
Rise up.
Sean Kady (01:55):
... board. Rise up, Mississauga. Stand up, Mississauga. She's put forth an initiative to try and allow the City of Mississauga to licence retail stores in their fine municipality. I know there's been a lot of challenges there re lots of illegal activity still happening, like black market stores, for lack of a better term of them.
Charlie Kady (02:16):
Well, it's just any market. It needs to be serviced.
Sean Kady (02:20):
It needs to be serviced. It's the second biggest city in the golden horseshoe by Toronto I think was Mississauga, right? So lots of people there. They need their weed too, man.
Charlie Kady (02:29):
Yeah, but I guess part of that too, and why they're holding up, A, is probably just their beliefs there, the counsellors, maybe they're old, I don't know, but they're against it for some reason, and the other reason is they don't want to see the saturation that we kind of have seen in Toronto, for instance, which I do get.
Sean Kady (02:50):
From my understanding that is a big sticking point. It's the clustering, but I don't really see a way around that. How would you... I can't even think of a way to over-regulate it.
Charlie Kady (03:02):
No, I guess that's why you leave it up to...
Sean Kady (03:04):
Capitalism, that it is what it is, right? Whoever wants to go in there and try can go for it. But I'm sure there are people that already have their real estate lined up. I have no doubt in my mind that there are people ready to go.
Charlie Kady (03:15):
Maybe the big boys. Yeah.
Sean Kady (03:17):
Yeah, yeah. Probably, right?
Charlie Kady (03:18):
Yeah. That goes to show that's just another barrier, I suppose, to operating in the market.
Sean Kady (03:25):
The regulatory side of things beyond just the monetary and other implications I guess you mean, Charlie?
Charlie Kady (03:33):
Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, regulation I guess. Yeah, you're right, monetary. That would be it. Certainly, it's not like-
Sean Kady (03:40):
Very monetary barriers.
Charlie Kady (03:41):
... we can sit on a place and wait to see if they're going to open it up. But yeah, no, it's interesting to see. We'll see what that market looks like. Probably the same thing, probably a big expansion right off the get-go of larger... It'll probably be a play out. I would hope that a lot of the players had learned something about what had happened with the rest of the province. I'm sure people will be a little bit more, you would think, I don't know, not just throw a darted a board and be like, "I'm going to open a store." I just felt like a lot of that was going on. We really looked in and did our market research when we picked our location, but I think a lot of people just... And with that being said, remember how hard it was to even find a landlord that was willing to work with you.
Sean Kady (04:23):
That's right.
Charlie Kady (04:24):
But shout out to Rihanna Ford and what she's doing in the city of Mississauga. We hope the city council does the right thing.
Sean Kady (04:31):
I look forward to having her on the show at some point, I hope.
Charlie Kady (04:33):
Yeah, yeah. I think we should coming soon. She should come on the show at some point.
Sean Kady (04:38):
Yeah, yeah. I guess, on to something else I wanted to talk about, it's just, speaking of retail, just all the products we're seeing and this wild THC.
Charlie Kady (04:48):
All the new drops. New drops this week.
Sean Kady (04:52):
Are there new drops? Yeah, I guess so.
Charlie Kady (04:52):
There was.
Sean Kady (04:53):
Well, yeah, there is.
Charlie Kady (04:54):
There was.
Sean Kady (04:54):
You're right. Carmel, new...
Charlie Kady (04:57):
Carmel had their new pink come out. Their rarest pink, truest pheno. We went to that party last week. That was a lot of fun. Again, it's just so nice chatting with those guys because when I saw Drew, he was so proud of his work, so to catch up with him and really see what he was working on was really special. So that was a lot of fun. That came out this week. 1964 dropped their Gelato 41? Gelato 41?
Sean Kady (05:21):
Yes. Different cut. Yeah.
Charlie Kady (05:23):
I got a bag right here somewhere anyways. We'll talk about that later.
Sean Kady (05:26):
Yeah. Those duct tape Rosin rolls, the new duct tape rosin rolls.
Charlie Kady (05:30):
Those are pretty unreal.
Sean Kady (05:31):
Those are pretty amazing. Those came out this week. Obviously the white rut roll was great.
Charlie Kady (05:36):
They're phenomenal, to be honest.
Sean Kady (05:36):
They followed it up with the duct tape. Oh man, you got to try if you haven't tried it.
Charlie Kady (05:41):
Yeah, very good. Yeah, no, it's wild.
Sean Kady (05:46):
3000 products and counting.
Charlie Kady (05:47):
Over, over. I mean right now there's about 2,500 available, but that's just the breadth. What was a funny one? Remember salad dressing? Come on.
Sean Kady (05:58):
I haven't tried it yet. I was tempted. I think it's an orange poppy seed.
Charlie Kady (06:01):
Come on. Who has it?
Sean Kady (06:03):
I believe. I think it's orange poppy seed or something.
Charlie Kady (06:03):
That's gross.
Sean Kady (06:03):
Or it looked... I don't know. What's gross about it?
Charlie Kady (06:07):
Orange poppy seed?
Sean Kady (06:08):
I think so. Maybe I could be stand corrected. We'll have to look into that on the break.
Charlie Kady (06:13):
We're not bringing it in, that's for sure. You won't find that at a 821 Queen. That's for sure.
Sean Kady (06:17):
Yeah, no, I appreciate it. I think... Well, we've had this conversation before. I think it's a fine line where the OCS wants innovations, and they're trying to push. So these companies are forced to make innovations, and I think it's hard to innovate.
Charlie Kady (06:31):
It is fun.
Sean Kady (06:32):
It's really hard. It's a lot of fun, but I think at the rate that they're asking for innovations, you're bound to have some losers, right?
Charlie Kady (06:39):
That's right.
Sean Kady (06:39):
That's the only point I'm trying to make.
Charlie Kady (06:40):
No, it's cool. It is cool to see it advance. And again, I guess it does expand the market into different occasions for people, which I believe in if the end product is going to reach more people and ultimately be a good alternative to other substances.
Sean Kady (07:00):
Back to what I was saying, do you think Charlie though, that more products is the route to actually growing cannabis, growing the industry? Do you think... I think that they want to get to 10,000. Well, I'm just like, do we actually need that many products?
Charlie Kady (07:14):
10,000 might be a little bit of a reach. It's hard to ask a company to continue and sustainably create new products. I think that that's also a-
Sean Kady (07:24):
It's unrealistic, right?
Charlie Kady (07:25):
Yeah. That's an expectation I think that's kind of unfortunate in cannabis, at least we're seeing amongst what would be the trends and what they're following. People want the new next thing.
Sean Kady (07:35):
I agree. I totally agree with you. It's just such a fine line I think, so I guess it's going to be somewhere finding that sweet spot-
Charlie Kady (07:43):
It's hard to navigate, yeah.
Sean Kady (07:44):
... between this 3,000 we're at now and the 10,000 that the Ontario Cannabis Store claims they want to be at. So I was adamant that I think that that's a mistake, and I think we should just be a little more careful with what we're choosing to release.
Charlie Kady (07:58):
Well, exactly.
Sean Kady (08:00):
How much time and energy and packaging and waste goes into putting these products on the shelves.
Charlie Kady (08:05):
That's totally true. On another point though, that's also what makes A, part of our job fun in a sense, but B, what we're trying to be good at and what we're always trying to do here is find the best things. Yes, there's 2,500 products. How many do we carry? Maybe a third? No, sorry, not even a third. A tenth?
Sean Kady (08:26):
Not even a third. I guess about 10% roughly at any given time, right? Around 460.
Charlie Kady (08:31):
More than that maybe, but-
Sean Kady (08:32):
Just over.
Charlie Kady (08:33):
So it's finding all those gems, finding what's good, what's trending, what the people want, and that makes it fun curating. But also it's challenging, sometimes you buy something, and you're rolling the dice.
Sean Kady (08:53):
It's heartbreaking. I know me and you have both made bad decisions [inaudible 00:08:53]-
Charlie Kady (08:53):
And then you and me end up burning it all.
Sean Kady (08:54):
Yeah. So it's so disappointing when that happens, especially when it's somebody that you trust.
Charlie Kady (09:00):
Oh, well...
Sean Kady (09:00):
It doesn't happen as often, but it can. It does.
Charlie Kady (09:03):
Talk about another fine line. That was something I was thinking about because part of what we do is talking and grading people, and if it's a smaller grower and sometimes I grab it and I'm like, "Oh..."
Sean Kady (09:15):
You know right away.
Charlie Kady (09:15):
I don't want to kill this guy because I know how much work went into that.
Sean Kady (09:19):
And you know right away. When you smell and you touch it, and there's just wimpy little nugs, and they're just... And you're like, "I'm so sad. These are sad." All right, we're going to talk about a lot more on the show, so stay tuned. Always remember, follow us at Higher Orbit. Website's higherorbit.ca. If you want to get in touch with Charlie or myself, it's Sean@higherorbit.ca.
Charlie Kady (09:42):
Or Charlie.
Sean Kady (09:43):
We'll be back.
Charlie Kady (09:45):
Check us out.
(09:46):
Welcome back to Higher Orbit. Here with Sean, back of the shop, bright and early. I love it.
Sean Kady (10:07):
Day before 4/20.
Charlie Kady (10:08):
We are still fired up. We are still very fired up.
Sean Kady (10:14):
What do you want to get into, Charles?
Charlie Kady (10:16):
Well, I definitely want to hit back up on that THC note, and...
Sean Kady (10:22):
Just touch on the current problem that lies within [inaudible 00:10:28]-
Charlie Kady (10:28):
Everyone's talking about it, that's for sure. I tried to talk to somebody, a customer, a guest yesterday, and they were like, "What?"
Sean Kady (10:37):
Oh, they don't believe you?
Charlie Kady (10:38):
But certainly people in the industry know what's going on.
Sean Kady (10:41):
It's a fraud.
Charlie Kady (10:42):
Yeah, it's a fraud.
Sean Kady (10:42):
It's a fraud.
Charlie Kady (10:42):
At the end of the day.
Sean Kady (10:45):
It's definitely... It's not a good thing because I do equate it to it'd be like, what if you bought a beer and it had the wrong alcohol percentage on it? That's not allowed.
Charlie Kady (10:54):
You get in trouble.
Sean Kady (10:55):
Within what, 0.5, but...
Charlie Kady (10:57):
Yeah, there is an allowable amount of variance.
Sean Kady (11:00):
Right?
Charlie Kady (11:00):
That is allowable, for those who don't know. I think it's 15%, and same with edibles, but regardless-
Sean Kady (11:10):
That being said.
Charlie Kady (11:11):
... yes, it should be honed in on and cracked down on.
Sean Kady (11:14):
Yeah, there needs to be regulation on the testers and the labs because all these labs, from my understanding, basically there's just a monetary amount of money.
Charlie Kady (11:24):
Standardisation, maybe.
Sean Kady (11:25):
You go through... You pay someone at the government, and you get a licence, and now I can test cannabis, and that's it. So there's no vigorous check in on what standards you're following or using. So I would love to have a little more in-depth conversation about it. Maybe we'll get into that in another podcast.
Charlie Kady (11:43):
Hopefully we can get somebody from a lab on this show.
Sean Kady (11:45):
High North Labs I think is the gold standard from my understanding, so maybe we'll reach out to them.
Charlie Kady (11:50):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (11:50):
We'll see.
Charlie Kady (11:51):
One day. But yeah, that's interesting to see, again, going back to what assortment comes through.
Sean Kady (11:57):
But it makes it challenging, I would say, one more point on that, Charlie, though, but it just makes it challenging to educate the consumer, and I guess that's what you're saying. And the customer that...
Charlie Kady (12:04):
Yeah, and just navigate what you're getting at the end of the day.
Sean Kady (12:06):
All the hard work we've been doing, and now it's like all you're buying for is THC and percentage when we've been telling people, "Well, what are you trying to accomplish with your high? What are you trying to..." You know?
Charlie Kady (12:16):
Yeah. I will say that's also the funniest type of person who comes in who's like, "Give me the cheapest thing you have at the highest THC." And then when they're checking out, they're like, "Is it good?" And I'm like, "Buddy, this is like 20 bucks." But yeah.
Sean Kady (12:33):
Yeah, good supply 29% jangi is still good supply jangi, right? So it doesn't matter if it's 29%.
Charlie Kady (12:40):
But again on that note too, it's okay if people should be able to smoke and enjoy what they like. I do believe in that thoroughly.
Sean Kady (12:47):
To each their own.
Charlie Kady (12:47):
I do.
Sean Kady (12:48):
Yep.
Charlie Kady (12:48):
But you're right. It's not ideal. It creates I think a lack of trust, which is a problem that we have, really, with the way the weed is packaged, and it's tough.
Sean Kady (13:01):
Well, yeah, I just think that the cannabis industry wants to be taken more seriously. It's going to start with those THC numbers and the standardised testing coming in line with... I don't know. We don't have anything to compare ourselves, but alcohol or something like that. There should be a variance only. There shouldn't be things that are 36% that I hear are like 20. I heard it's ridiculous. Things are about 17 to 20% less sometimes than advertised. Anyways, moving on.
Charlie Kady (13:25):
Yeah, yeah, no with that said-
Sean Kady (13:27):
We'll follow up with that in another episode.
Charlie Kady (13:29):
With that said, there are high THC things that we do like. Probably some of our Space Traveller Awards.
Sean Kady (13:39):
Oh yeah, baby. So for everyone that doesn't know, our Space Traveller Awards are going to run from 4/20 to 4/20. It's like Higher Orbit's Oscar season, if you will. It'll be in April. We're going to roll out the nominees next year, earlier in the year, and then give away the award on 4/20, but a little more expedited process. We do have our winners this year, and we're very excited to share them with you. What are they? Where do you want to start?
Charlie Kady (14:11):
I was thinking edibles. Keep it fun. Keep it easy.
Sean Kady (14:15):
Shout out to the edible folks. This was a really tough... And that being said-
Charlie Kady (14:18):
There's so many.
Sean Kady (14:18):
... we decided that in the edible category it's edible and then beverage is separate.
Charlie Kady (14:25):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (14:25):
Drum roll. Come on, charlie, who's the winner of the edible category?
Charlie Kady (14:29):
We rolled with our boy Rosin Heads.
Sean Kady (14:31):
Rosin Heads. Let's go. Shout out to Todd Neal. What a fantastic product, man. I can't stress enough just the quality. And solventless edibles are become really a sticking point all this year. The quality ingredients he uses in his chocolate, award-winning chocolatier, founder, CEO. We're going to have him on the show, aren't we?
Charlie Kady (14:57):
He's been doing it before. There you go. We got him coming up.
Sean Kady (14:59):
So we do have him... Big announcement. We have him coming on this show sometime in May, so stay tuned for that.
Charlie Kady (15:04):
It's just a great innovation. It's been around, but in the market it's a great innovation. And they taste amazing.
Sean Kady (15:09):
Truffles are amazing. It's a phenomenal truffle.
Charlie Kady (15:11):
Go try them.
Sean Kady (15:12):
If you haven't had one yet, they come in pistachio.
Charlie Kady (15:15):
That one's fire.
Sean Kady (15:15):
Orange hazelnut. My favourite the raspberry peanut butter cup.
Charlie Kady (15:20):
Also good.
Sean Kady (15:21):
New edition, if you haven't checked it out. The caramel peanut butter cup, fucking fire. And I'm forgetting one other one. We'll talk about it more when we have him on the show.
Charlie Kady (15:30):
We'll have him on the show. We'll give them the award.
Sean Kady (15:31):
Yeah.
Charlie Kady (15:32):
Love those. And onto our next little award. What have we got next?
Sean Kady (15:38):
Next one, I guess I'm going to go pre-roll. This was one of my favourite pre-rolls of the year. I think they do really good work. I think the only ones that come in a glass jar now. Shout out to Avant and Black Market. The upside down cake I think that the flowers come-
Charlie Kady (15:53):
So good.
Sean Kady (15:53):
We're really looking forward to that flower drop too. I hear that the upside down cake is going to come out. Really funky pheno, man. Just a really interesting cut, and a really crazy hybrid. It's so strong.
Charlie Kady (16:05):
It's excellent. Yeah.
Sean Kady (16:06):
Excellent, excellent, excellent hybrid. That's funny where that... Yeah. Apologies. Someone's trying to call the store, so you can't really account for that.
Charlie Kady (16:15):
We fire this up before we're open. So anyways, bright and early. Upside down cake fire, it's got train wreck in it. I love it. That's all I need to say. It's unreal.
Sean Kady (16:24):
Yeah, we look forward to the flower drop, Black Market always pushing innovations and bringing a really nice cultivars to market. So congratulations to Black Market and their win in the pre-roll category.
Charlie Kady (16:35):
To follow that up, I think we'll just cruise into the infused pre-roll since that became super hot since General Admission just tore open a hole in the market.
Sean Kady (16:45):
Yes, they really did. And everybody's just been pumping out those infused pre-rolls. I do like them. That being said, they got to burn well. They got to taste good.
Charlie Kady (16:54):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (16:55):
I know everybody loves those distillate rolls. Not really for me. They were hard to deny in sales. If you like to smoke candy, I guess.
Charlie Kady (17:03):
People love those.
Sean Kady (17:04):
Yeah.
Charlie Kady (17:05):
Honestly they fly. But that's not our winner.
Sean Kady (17:08):
That's not our winner. We went a different direction. I'm actually... Look, I'm wearing the shirt.
Charlie Kady (17:12):
There you go.
Sean Kady (17:13):
I'm wearing their shirt.
Charlie Kady (17:14):
It's Rubicon's Rosin Roll.
Sean Kady (17:17):
Rosin Roll by Simply Bear. If you haven't tried one of those, such a great product. Burns all the way to the end. Super terpy and tasty.
Charlie Kady (17:25):
And so dank.
Sean Kady (17:25):
So dank, so strong.
Charlie Kady (17:26):
So strong.
Sean Kady (17:27):
It might only get in under 35. It always has close to 4% terps or something crazy on it, and just a really great innovation. Again, it doesn't clog, burns really well, tastes good. It's organic. It's organic, baby.
Charlie Kady (17:39):
More natural. No distillate.
Sean Kady (17:41):
Yeah.
Charlie Kady (17:41):
I would have to-
Sean Kady (17:41):
[inaudible 00:17:43].
Charlie Kady (17:43):
... give a shout-out to General Admission for cracking open the market though, just quickly on that note.
Sean Kady (17:48):
We did, we did.
Charlie Kady (17:50):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (17:51):
We'll see. Yeah, I'm wondering too, I know the regulations don't allow for it, but everybody wants just a 10 pack of those. Just give me like 10 peach rings, like a huge, giant...
Charlie Kady (17:58):
The fruits, bro.
Sean Kady (17:58):
I know.
Charlie Kady (18:00):
For 50 bucks.
Sean Kady (18:01):
Anyways.
Charlie Kady (18:03):
Onto our next one. What do we got? We got drinks.
Sean Kady (18:06):
Drinks.
Charlie Kady (18:06):
Yeah.
Sean Kady (18:07):
Drinks.
Charlie Kady (18:07):
Yeah, we already had them on the show.
Sean Kady (18:09):
We already had them on the show. Our boy Matt Sherkis from Sheesh Colas. Cherry Hash Rosin solventless Cola with a Niagara Cherry juice, the real cane sugar.
Charlie Kady (18:21):
It's so good.
Sean Kady (18:22):
You can't really beat that man. Honestly, I gave it to a friend, he hadn't tried it yet, a good friend, we're going to have him on the show anyways, but he said he bought another six. He was like, "I loved it. I went out and bought another six the next day."
Charlie Kady (18:33):
It's hard. I'd be remiss not to give a shout out to Collective Projects. They make a great beverage.
Sean Kady (18:39):
They do.
Charlie Kady (18:39):
We just love the blood orange fly.
Sean Kady (18:40):
The blood orange [inaudible 00:18:40] fly. But that really came out. That was in 2022. If there was a Space Traveller Awards for last year, they would've won, a hundred percent.
Charlie Kady (18:46):
That's fair.
Sean Kady (18:47):
Shout out to them. The Raspberry Vanilla, not really my thing. It is picking up steam. Day Tripper was good. We look forward to seeing what they come up with next. So yeah, shout out to them. Onto I guess flower, man. The big category. Or are we doing flower last?
Charlie Kady (19:00):
You got to go vape, vape, vape.
Sean Kady (19:03):
"Vape, vape, vape," he says. Okay. All right Charles, I'm going to let you unload on the vapes.
Charlie Kady (19:07):
Well yeah, that's tough because we don't even really vape all that much. We try them, but I think-
Sean Kady (19:12):
This was a tough category though because I think we had to go vape is an easy one that's like innovation or is it flavour or is it the tech, and it's really a combination of everything.
Charlie Kady (19:22):
Yeah. When we're talking about them, that's for sure.
Sean Kady (19:24):
And we decided that the Kolab wedding pie 150 live rosin cart. It was the first live rosin cart to market in Ontario.
Charlie Kady (19:33):
Doesn't clog. Tastes just like the flower.
Sean Kady (19:35):
Tastes really good. You always get that great tech that you get from any kind of Oxy product. And shout out to... I'm not really a [inaudible 00:19:42] guy, but those new back 40, the ice and the watermelon, whatever.
Charlie Kady (19:46):
Those are popular. They taste very good.
Sean Kady (19:48):
Very popular, smooth, tasty. Close second to the Creemore Valley Kush. Shout out to Purple Hills.
Charlie Kady (19:51):
I love that cart. I do love that cart.
Sean Kady (19:51):
I love that cart. Again, I think that was even... Again, if we did one last year, it would've won.
Charlie Kady (19:55):
Yes.
Sean Kady (19:56):
Close run up, whatever you want to call it. It's a store favourite of ours. Next is topical.
Charlie Kady (20:02):
Topical. You joker.
Sean Kady (20:03):
This was a topic of debate and people didn't want to add a topical, but I said it's an important category. I do think that there were some good innovations this year. And I honestly think we sold so much of it, shout out to Al Harrington and Replay, the muscle rub and that with the pump bottle. The only MBA certified product.
Charlie Kady (20:23):
I've re-bought it too personally.
Sean Kady (20:25):
Super effective.
Charlie Kady (20:26):
So it does get the Charlie thumbs up. I have re-bought it. More than one.
Sean Kady (20:29):
My wife, I just bought Darren some, I bought it home.
Charlie Kady (20:32):
That's nice.
Sean Kady (20:33):
She loves it. She said it's great.
Charlie Kady (20:35):
Shred your back or neck, it does help.
Sean Kady (20:37):
And again, I touching on that too, I don't know if you heard the NBA is allowing cannabis. It's not a banned substance anymore. Sorry, just on the note to Al Harrington and the muscle rub. So muscle rub won the topical Space Traveller of the year of the award. Charlie, what's next?
Charlie Kady (20:57):
Boom boom. It's flower time baby. This is our category.
Sean Kady (21:01):
This is it.
Charlie Kady (21:01):
This is why we do it probably.
Sean Kady (21:02):
Oh, we forgot extract.
Charlie Kady (21:03):
Extract.
Sean Kady (21:04):
You forgot it with your boy. You forgot with your boy Nico Dank, man.
Charlie Kady (21:07):
Okay, okay, okay, fine. Yeah, there you go.
Sean Kady (21:09):
Shout out to Nugs, man. I think this was an easy winner for us.
Charlie Kady (21:13):
Terple the Rosin.
Sean Kady (21:16):
The Terple Rosin for so many reasons. Value, tastes amazing. I had people come back and buy four, six of them at a time. We couldn't keep it in stock. Just a very, it's a delicious product, man.
Charlie Kady (21:28):
Haven't really been many rosins out that were not good either.
Sean Kady (21:30):
Just taste like delicious... It's like a kerosene crossed with a fresh squeeze orange juice flavour. It's phenomenal extract. Shout out to Nico Dank and the team at Nugs. We look forward to seeing what they do next year. Now on to the, big drum roll, Charlie, the flower, flower of the year.
Charlie Kady (21:50):
This is really tough though. This is very tough. You could have went any direction. We kind of probably sit in an area where we love the nicest bags, right.
Sean Kady (22:00):
Definitely.
Charlie Kady (22:01):
If you're taking price out of the equation... Well even the value's there.
Sean Kady (22:05):
Well part of me... Billy has to be, man. I think so. It's Carmel [inaudible 00:22:11] branded through Paper Craft, whatever you want to call it. That flower was consistently...
Charlie Kady (22:15):
Animal face cookies. Even the Georgia sour was excellent.
Sean Kady (22:18):
It was, it was. But I think that both renditions, both cuts that they brought, so now they're onto a second. I think the first... From my understanding, the first animal face cookies they brought out under Billies was more of a sativa cut and then this one's more of an indica leaning one. I don't know if you knew that, but they're both phenomenal, both crowd pleasers. And I can't stress consistency when it comes to flower enough. And the entire year, every time I open a bag of that I was like, "Damn that's dank."
Charlie Kady (22:48):
There are some ones I would also want to shout out there too, like Cannara, I think just the value and what they've done to, I guess, just give you something in your back pocket that you know is always going to be pretty good at that price point. A lot of people will struggle.
Sean Kady (23:00):
Oh, Tribal or [inaudible 00:23:02].
Charlie Kady (23:01):
People are using Tribal for sure.
Sean Kady (23:03):
Dig Lotto, mentor the... Galactic runts. The galactic runts. The Galactic Runts is good. Comatose by 1964, unbelievable value there. I definitely threw them in the ring.
Charlie Kady (23:15):
They were close.
Sean Kady (23:16):
They were a close second. They were right there.
Charlie Kady (23:18):
That value's great. We loved the white runts, you and me both personally, by Simply Bear, which is no longer... We have some jars still.
Sean Kady (23:24):
We have we a few jars at 821 Queen if you need any, but apparently they're just [inaudible 00:23:28].
Charlie Kady (23:27):
And then I also love the bandwagon, just the unbelievable value.
Sean Kady (23:30):
Oh, the ounce?
Charlie Kady (23:31):
Those ounces.
Sean Kady (23:32):
Yeah. We had white runts ounces, remember that? I think we had four boxes of those. They flew. But yeah, we're so excited. We're going to give these out. Hopefully have people from each of those on the show one day.
Charlie Kady (23:46):
Hopefully, we can have some of you guys on the podcast one day. We look forward to sending these out to you. I have to... I'll reach out to you and find out how I'm going to get it to you, these awards, but we're very excited to announce the winners. And if you have any opinions about the awards, maybe you give us feedback. Maybe you think we're crazy. Maybe you're like, "How could you forget somebody's product?"
Sean Kady (24:09):
That's it. Charlie.
Charlie Kady (24:10):
"You think we're fools?"
Sean Kady (24:10):
Sean@HigherOrbit.ca.
Charlie Kady (24:10):
Or Charlie@HigherOrbit.ca.
Sean Kady (24:11):
Remember to follow us @Higher Orbit and give us a follow guys. Yeah. Subscribe, talk soon.
Charlie Kady (24:21):
We are back. Welcome. I'm here with Sean, my brother, the back of the shop. Cosmic Charles.
Sean Kady (24:45):
821 Queen Street West. Welcome back to Higher Orbit everybody. That was pretty dope.
Charlie Kady (24:54):
That was pretty sick.
Sean Kady (24:56):
We're back. We're here talking a little bit about new everything cannabis.
Charlie Kady (25:02):
New drops? Nope.
Sean Kady (25:02):
Yeah, new drops. Well in general, why are we here? Why are we here? We're talking about everything we do. We're learning along the way. We're checking out new products. We're bringing you the best of what's happening in the legal cannabis industry, especially along the most popular, most competitive area in Toronto. You've got it. And just to clarify, since we're back, if you did win a Space Traveller Award, we will reach out to you and we'll get them sent out to you.
Charlie Kady (25:35):
We'll fire those off back.
Sean Kady (25:37):
We look forward to-
Charlie Kady (25:38):
And please, I would love to hear everyone's feedback and any opinion about who we gave them out to and if you have questions why, love it.
Sean Kady (25:46):
You disagree, you agree? Let's talk about it.
Charlie Kady (25:48):
We'd love to get the feedback. That's the beauty of it. But yeah, kind of beyond that, what's something fire that we just picked up, Sean?
Sean Kady (25:58):
Yeah, I guess we're going to do our very first product review on the show. We got the Carmel Rares Pink baby right there.
Charlie Kady (26:07):
Let's see. I tried to get a good bag.
Sean Kady (26:08):
So yeah, it's this pink grown by Carmel. So it's Drew's cut. I know that. It's a breeder. It says question mark lineage question mark. Aromas are sweet gas, floral appearance is lime green, dense, frosty. We got...
Charlie Kady (26:25):
What's the THC and a terps?
Sean Kady (26:26):
Woo. High North Labs tested 32.97% THC.
Charlie Kady (26:28):
Terps?
Sean Kady (26:31):
And the dominant terpenes. What have we got here? Sorry, one second.
Charlie Kady (26:37):
Right corner. Bottom right.
Sean Kady (26:39):
Why am I getting all confused? Here, you open it.
Charlie Kady (26:45):
Let me see. 3.2% terps. It's high in merocrine, limine, caryophyllene so and is packaged April 8th. That's pretty fire. I'm going to open it.
Sean Kady (26:54):
Yeah, go for it. Sorry. You would've thought I'd already smoked a giant blunt of it. Oh, where are the terpenes?
Charlie Kady (26:59):
So, well it's good. That means there's more information being shown on these packages.
Sean Kady (27:03):
Yeah, they got our little scope glass here.
Charlie Kady (27:05):
Oh wow.
Sean Kady (27:08):
We dump it in there.
Charlie Kady (27:08):
Okay.
Sean Kady (27:08):
We'll be looking at Charles.
Charlie Kady (27:09):
Okay. You have a small boost in there. There's a 62%, probably one gramme boost, something like that. Yeah.
Sean Kady (27:18):
Comparatively speaking to that CVault that we got to stick our nose in at the event.
Charlie Kady (27:23):
We get five nuggets. It smells good. I think it smells to be honest better than that. It smells better than that.
Sean Kady (27:29):
Maybe it was fresh. I wonder maybe...
Charlie Kady (27:31):
It's different from what's in the bags. You got five nuggets. Where's the top? Sorry. Here you go. Inspect. Wow. Let's just check for the [inaudible 00:27:44]. Dude, rock hard nuggets. Nice cure has the right amount of sponge but bounce back it seems. And it looks pretty crazy, I'm not going to lie. I wish we had one of those actual...
Sean Kady (27:57):
Triscopes? We have a loop. I will find it for you. It's in the office somewhere.
Charlie Kady (28:03):
It looks exactly the same. I'm not going to lie. In fact, I guess I got actually-
Sean Kady (28:06):
[inaudible 00:28:07] recommended a loop that I buy and I have it.
Charlie Kady (28:09):
I think I got bigger nugs at the event, but I'm not going to lie this smells better. Open that up. Tell me otherwise.
Sean Kady (28:14):
Wow.
Charlie Kady (28:15):
Yeah man. I knew we had to open a jar.
Sean Kady (28:20):
Yeah, because I did feel like when we tried it at the event, no diss to anybody, I wondered about the cure on it because it was still in the CVault, and there was just a little bit of a greenness to it. And that's not a knock on it, it might have just needed some more time. Smells better.
Charlie Kady (28:33):
Yeah, it does smell better.
Sean Kady (28:35):
Smells better.
Charlie Kady (28:36):
I look forward to trying it. Our showrunner wants to smell it. Probably the biggest Carmel fan in the building. That's right.
Sean Kady (28:44):
I think it smells better.
Charlie Kady (28:45):
He's nodding his head like a little gremlin and with his nose down the jar. So I guess if we're rating it on, I guess it has to be stars, right? Because we're...
Sean Kady (28:53):
Well, bag appeal, what are you giving this, buddy?
Charlie Kady (28:59):
That's up there? Would I wish it was one bigger nug? But pinks are usually kind of small so I guess that's just-
Sean Kady (29:05):
That's just structure of pink, right? I think this is-
Charlie Kady (29:08):
It's pretty good for pink size nuggets I think.
Sean Kady (29:11):
I mean, I know it doesn't say, it just says it's a pink. I suspect it's a pink cookies. I'm just throwing something out there. I could be wrong. I'll ask Drew next time I see him. I'm sure he won't tell me.
Charlie Kady (29:22):
I can't wait to learn more about all the genetics and get a grower on here, if they have time.
Sean Kady (29:28):
We'll have growers on here a hundred percent.
Charlie Kady (29:30):
Yeah. It's hard man. Again, that's always a funny thing. I love grading and looking at weed and talking about it, but I hate...
Sean Kady (29:39):
I'm going to say four out of five for me. Four out of five stars on the bag appeal.
Charlie Kady (29:44):
Wow.
Sean Kady (29:45):
What, you think I'm being generous?
Charlie Kady (29:46):
No, I don't know.
Sean Kady (29:47):
I think it's pretty good.
Charlie Kady (29:49):
Seems 80% seems fair.
Sean Kady (29:50):
Yeah. Still an A. Yeah. And it smells less grassy and more gassy. And it rhymes just like that for my-
Charlie Kady (29:58):
I'm much happier about that, I'm not going to lie. It's a little concerned about this.
Sean Kady (30:00):
I'm going to say three and a half on the smell for me. It's not quite there, but that's still a good score.
Charlie Kady (30:10):
We got to revisit it one more time. Let's try. Yeah. So I'm going to crack one open and we're going to try it. That's what's going to happen.
Sean Kady (30:14):
That's what's going to happen. And we'll be on a short break. We're going to roll this up.
Charlie Kady (30:20):
We're going to roll up and we'll be right back and we'll let you know.
Sean Kady (30:24):
Is that sticky?
Charlie Kady (30:25):
It is sticky. It is sticky. Be sure to follow us @Higher Orbit. Check us out Cosmic Charlies.shop.
Sean Kady (30:32):
Yeah, we're also at CosmicCharlies.shop. @Higher orbit. You can reach me, Sean@higherorbit.ca, Charlie@higherorbit.ca. We'd love to hear from you. We'll be right back guys.
(30:54):
Welcome back to the podcast everybody. We just tried Carmel's new rare pink.
Charlie Kady (31:02):
How do you feel Sean?
Sean Kady (31:04):
I feel incredibly stoned. It's very strong. It's definitely strong. It slaps for sure. I will say I sense a cookies vibe to it. I don't know about you, I got a vanilla cookies. I'm just wondering, to me, it's not like a true gassy, gassy pink. It fucking slaps though. So I'll give it that. It's incredibly strong. Really smooth. Honestly, four out of five. I'm going to give it a four out of five still because I do love Carmel and those guys. Four out of five on the smoke. So what did I give it, four out of five on the look, 3.5 stars on the smell I guess and the appearance. And then I'm going to give it a four on smoke-ability. So you could say for me it lies somewhere in a 3.75 to 4-ish range. I guess if that's the thing.
Charlie Kady (31:49):
I'd probably agree with you there. And I would direct to you in any case. I'm happy we opened it and checked it out though. I'm not going to lie. But yeah, I mean...
Sean Kady (32:00):
Do you agree though? Do you think that there's like... Do you sense that... I think that's why it doesn't say pink kush in the bag because it says pink, but I'm like it's pink something because it's like... I don't think pinks get that high in THC. And I am so chatty and active right now and cerebrally like woo.
Charlie Kady (32:15):
I'm not gravitating to the couch really necessarily. We'll see. It's definitely got the old ticker going a little pop pop.
Sean Kady (32:25):
That's what I'm saying.
Charlie Kady (32:26):
That's traditional I guess for [inaudible 00:32:28].
Sean Kady (32:27):
Did they cross pink and animal face or something. What are you guys doing over there? There's some sort of trade secret we don't know about, but anyways.
Charlie Kady (32:34):
Yeah, definitely check it out though.
Sean Kady (32:36):
Definitely check it out. Guys.
Charlie Kady (32:36):
Great flower.
Sean Kady (32:37):
[inaudible 00:32:38] stock, amazing flower. Shout to Drew and Billy for another drop. It's exciting to see them...
Charlie Kady (32:44):
Cool to see them get something. S.
Sean Kady (32:45):
Release something that they're growing because obviously the Billy's and the Drew lines were rebrand.
Charlie Kady (32:51):
Good successes though.
Sean Kady (32:52):
Good successes. Still great eye for picking bags and obviously they were good products but something that they're actually creating themselves and they [inaudible 00:33:01] themselves.
Charlie Kady (33:01):
That's awesome.
Sean Kady (33:02):
Yeah, shout out to Drew and Billy. Congratulations to Carmel.
Charlie Kady (33:04):
Absolutely.
Sean Kady (33:06):
And that's our first product review. There you go. Many more to come. All right. Charlie, was there something you wanted to...
Charlie Kady (33:21):
Yeah, I look forward to hearing what people think of that. There's a lot of people who got to try it early and then... We'll see what the community thinks of that rare as pink. I'm definitely pretty zonked. But yeah...
Sean Kady (33:37):
Happy 4/20, right?
Charlie Kady (33:38):
Yeah, happy 4/20.
Sean Kady (33:38):
Happy 4/20 everybody. Night before 4/20. Super excited. Glad we were able to get this episode in. Look forward to seeing everybody at our events that we got lined up tomorrow, cannabis amnesty, charity, fundraiser.
Charlie Kady (33:53):
Come grab a slice.
Sean Kady (33:54):
We're going to match all donations $4.20 North of Brooklyn slice of pizza and you get a beverage as well. So great cause. Come support the shop between 12:00 and 4:00 PM. Other than that, we're going to be at Lavelle Nightclub. It's sold out right now. Hopefully you got your tickets already. I think there's over a thousand people coming to that. Carmel is sponsoring the-
Charlie Kady (34:11):
Carmel, Black Market.
Sean Kady (34:12):
Black Market, Stores and Pickles, LA they added Can Social, which I'm excited about too. Teapot, love that beverage, the ice tea.
Charlie Kady (34:22):
Lots of good products.
Sean Kady (34:24):
Our boys. Shout out to the Woods, our boys, the Woods putting it together. Brampton another great independent shop. And I believe Toe Cannabis is going to be there too.
Charlie Kady (34:33):
So cool.
Sean Kady (34:33):
So could be lots of fun. Everybody that comes out. We look forward to seeing you.
Charlie Kady (34:36):
Yeah, can't wait. I guess lastly, before we sign off, if you will, what are you smoking? What have been enjoying this days?
Sean Kady (34:45):
I've been... I think I actually have a bag right here. One second. I got it tucked away. Sorry. I got this. The Gelato 41.
Charlie Kady (34:53):
Right, right, right.
Sean Kady (34:55):
You know I love my pharmacy baby. 3.53 26.3% THC.
Charlie Kady (35:01):
I think we chatted about it a bit earlier.
Sean Kady (35:03):
I'll dump that out quickly. Like I saved the best nug. It's right here. They're rock hard. Maybe a touch for me on the...
Charlie Kady (35:12):
I think it's a good follow up to the Romulan.
Sean Kady (35:15):
It is, it is. I guess just for me, when I think gelato I just go... I immediately might gravitate to the Lot 4/20, shut out to Lot 4/20 like that cut of gelato.
Charlie Kady (35:25):
Larry Bird.
Sean Kady (35:25):
It's more that the splitter in there I think too. Maybe I just like those terps more. This gelato for me, it just doesn't translate on the smoke as much. So it looks amazing, smells amazing. I love these guys. But for me, I like the super lemon a little more and I still love that organic comatose.
(35:42):
So yeah, I really do like the...
Charlie Kady (35:45):
See if it'll last forever.
Sean Kady (35:46):
What are you smoking Charlie?
Charlie Kady (35:48):
What have I have I? Well hilariously, I have been on my blue dream tip, but honestly the simply bare blue dream is phenomenal. Every time you get it, it's unbelievable.
Sean Kady (35:57):
You're getting back to that? You're coming back... We're going double Rubicon? I guess I have the shirt on too.
Charlie Kady (36:03):
Yeah, it's just what I am smoking. Well it's what I've been smoking. It's so light and chill and just it tastes good every time. And it does translate, if you want something that's nice. And I also did get a chance to smoke that Cleopatra.
Sean Kady (36:18):
Oh, okay. What was that all about?
Charlie Kady (36:20):
Shout out to High Buds on that one, I suppose.
Sean Kady (36:22):
High Buds?
Charlie Kady (36:24):
Yeah. Yeah. The Cleopatra, it was... I don't have the jar, but it was like a burger crossed with something. Super high [inaudible 00:36:32] count. I guess you didn't really get to try it. Maybe you did. But I think we might be getting it. Anyways it was kind of cool to try something free drop. Good to know. They always produce nice stuff to be honest.
Sean Kady (36:45):
They're definitely somebody you can rely on. So whenever I buy a new drop from them, I'm always confident it'll be... I'm not... Let me see, The gelato 41 just isn't for me. It's still good weed. I'm still liking the comatose more. No hate on it or anything.
Charlie Kady (37:00):
For those who don't know Sean, sometimes he could grab a nugget and just, "Eh."
Sean Kady (37:04):
Fair enough. Well you have to be critical, Charles.
Charlie Kady (37:07):
No, I know, I know. That's how people get better. That's the whole point at the end of the day. But yeah, happy 4/20 everybody.
Sean Kady (37:17):
Oh, super excited, we can't forget Todd Neal's going to be on the show.
Charlie Kady (37:22):
Next show.
Sean Kady (37:22):
Our next show.
Charlie Kady (37:23):
There you go. Next time we run one, we're going to have Rosin Heads.
Sean Kady (37:26):
Early May Rosin Heads, the winner of the Space Traveller Edible Award. Super excited, master Chocolatier, CEO of Hash on Hash. Solventless chocolate truffles. So we look forward to talking to him, and his journey from legacy to legal. And he is a good friend of mine. So look out for that. I guess that's it. Until next time, Charles.
Charlie Kady (37:52):
Check us Higher Orbit.
Sean Kady (37:54):
